The First Annual Dog Show! SIGN UP NOW!!!!!! June 7th 1-4pm - Exhibition Park is just riddled with pretty pooches and diva dogs and we wanted to throw a party for those fabulous friends that bring so much to our lives. Unlike other dog shows that focus on specifics like breed type, agility, or skills, we wanted to make an event that any dog, regardless of pedigree or age has a chance of winning! With that in mind, we will have an online sign up for those who want to participate. Our categories as they stand right now are:
Belly Rub Competition - team event. People and their pooches team up to give the best belly rub possible. For 10 minutes, our judges will look at technique, receptivity and appreciation of that technique by the dog (hind leg kick, tongue loll, and other cues of bliss) and duration of belly rub.
Sing for your Supper - sing/howl duo contest - Each team will have a chance to show off their singing abilities! How in the groove can you two be?
Costume Showdown! - we all like a little bling in our lives and on our pets! Does your dog love a sweater, hat or scarf that they work like a runway model? Would you have a matching look? Show us your style!
Talent Show! - What is your dog’s talent? All talents are welcome, the zanier the better! Be ready to sign up your talented pal!
Obedience - How well does your dog listen? Will they sit? Stay? Stay while you walk away and have a coffee? This challenge is a last dog standing competition to see who can obey the longest!
If none of these fit you and your furry friend, we will also be seeking photos for a pet-person look alike contest, along with a stuffy dog contest for those who love dogs, but don’t have a real live one of their own. Both of these contests will be won based on who raises the most money, all of which will be donated to the Guelph Humane Society.
We also hope to have a demonstration by Dogs in the Park dog training and agility, to show off their super smart canines and trainers. Whether you come with a furry friend or on your own, there will be fun for everyone.
*If your dog is not a people-pleaser or hates crowds, it’s best to let them hang out at home — you can tell them all about it when you get back.
**Just so you know, the Guelph by-laws say only non-retractable leashes allowed.
